Embellishing Your Handknits

Video-Embellishing Ephemera, Pullover  Video-Embellishing Ephemera, Cardigan

Welcome to 2010! Your flurry of gift knitting is behind you, and you’re probably ready to re-group in all aspects of your life. I seem to make the same resolution every year when it comes to my knitting goals:Ephemera CardiganEphemera Pulloverto knit things that I will actually wear. This week I’d like to share two patterns that were inspired by this goal. The Ephemera Pullover and Ephemera Cardigan are knit with Ultra® Alpaca Fine. You might be thinking that knitting an entire sweater out of such a tiny yarn is an unbearable proposition, but I can assure you, it’s very doable.

Both garments were knit on size 6 needles for a finished fabric that is as light as a feather. The knitting seemed to zip-along, perhaps because I was looking forward to the final embellishment stage. Wearing them is a delight, they’re almost imperceptible layers that warm without overheating. Both are very basic shapes, but each is finished in a special way. Clear out your crafting nooks to gather up the supplies you’ll need and dive into our two videos to learn how I embellished these tops.
