Choosing Your Size

OrionaCassiaAnalogia

Loose, oversized sweaters have been making a comeback, but for knitters, responding to the trend can be a little confusing. After years of following patterns for close-fitting sweaters, how do you choose the correct size for an oversized garment?

When we design an oversized pattern, we account for this in the sizing. If you know that you usually knit a Berroco size Large, you can expect the Large oversized sweater to fit you correctly. If you’re still unsure, look in your closet for a garment that fits the same way you’d like your new sweater to fit. Alternatively, you can visit your favorite clothing store and try on a few oversized styles. Once you’ve found a sweater that you like, lay it on a flat surface, grab your measuring tape, and find the width at the bust. Check our pattern schematic to compare, and choose the size with a matching bust measurement.

This week’s free pattern, Talcott, is a simple oversized sweater knit in Linsey™, and it’s a perfect project for trying out your sizing skills.
