Hoe-to-Video: Applied I-Cord EdgingApplied I-Cord Edging

Learn a New Finishing Technique

There are many details to consider when designing and knitting a pattern, from the shape of your piece and pattern stitches to the finishing. In my opinion, the finishing is especially important. Sometimes a pattern calls for a rolled edge, but many knitted garments and accessories need a special finish along hems, necklines and other edges to help the fabric lay flat. This week’s free pattern, Mallow, features lace that is picked up and knit along the sides of the cardigan – making it decorative and functional. Another option is to attach an i-cord edge to your fabric. This technique is easy and visually interesting. Want to try it yourself? Watch our new how-to video and then pick a pattern. Here are a few we think would work especially well:

Elegant and graceful, this cardigan features a stunning lace back and edging that is picked up and knitted after the garment is seamed.
