Hoe-to-Video: Basic CableBasic Cable

Learn a Basic Cable

The origins of cable knitting have always fascinated me. It can be traced back to the Aran Islands off the coast of Ireland. The cables reflect the ropes the men worked with and Celtic art that surrounded them. Patterns were not written down, they were passed down from one generation to the next. It is believed that one could tell from the stitch patterning which family the sweater belonged to! Today, many of us still love Aran sweaters and can often recognize the patterning of some of our favorite designers.
