Alternating Skeins of Artisan™

Berroco Artisan is a new yarn from our Fall/Winter 2015 collection. It is a mulberry silk and extra fine Merino wool blend that is dip dyed in a range of beautiful jewel tones, with fabulous pattern support to back it up. We love Artisan and its hand dyed appearance, but with this beauty comes some added responsibility for us makers. For best results, we recommend alternating skeins as you work on a project with Artisan. Alternating skeins is necessary because, no matter how good the dyer or manufacturer, there is always slight variation from skein to skein, even within the same dye lot. That means you could see a line form across your piece if you knit one skein at a time. This can be avoided by working with two skeins and alternating every one or two rows.

This week’s free pattern, Memphre, is a small project that is perfect to test out this technique.
