Everyone's favorite outerwear this season is easy to wear and fun to knit.
We're talking about ponchos! This fashion trend has been on the rise over the last few years, and we've noticed many crafters seeking out poncho patterns on our website. So we've made them even easier to find! As part of our new website look, we've added a Poncho/Ruana filter to the Pattern Search database.
It's easy to see why ponchos and ruanas are in such demand. They're easy to wear and flatter every figure. Plus, they're super cozy and pretty easy to knit! Here's just a few of our most popular poncho and ruana patterns.
The Caledonia Ruana from Booklet #375 is knit in three shades of Berroco Cotolana™. Unlike a poncho, which is usually pulled over the head, a ruana is left open—you knit the two front pieces, and then join them to knit the back. This swingy piece is cozy and comfy, and the cotton and wool blend makes it a great choice for all seasons.
We recently held a trunk show at Old Slater Mill, and everyone who attended loved Melissa LaBarre's Arcadia Poncho from Berroco Portfolio Volume 2. With its generous collar and eye-catching cable pattern, this top-down poncho is a sure-fire way to stay warm through the last dregs of chilly weather.
The Marca Ruana from Portfolio Volume 3 makes a big statement. Three shades of Berroco Modern Cotton™ DK are knit in an open, airy stitch pattern. The right and left panels are knit separately and joined with a three-needle bind-off for easy knitting. Start knitting this now so it's ready for your beach visits!
The Erin poncho, this week's free pattern, is a playful, swingy piece with fun textures made with Berroco Vintage® Chunky. Knit flat from the bottom up, this poncho features an open front that's tied off at the neck with seed stitch bands. Fringe is added at the bottom for a '70s-style flair.
