Berroco Fan, if you're one of our —and now you can again!
That's right! Berroco Suede™ has come back to us. This 100% nylon ribbon perfectly mimics the look and feel of real suede in yarn that works up beautifully in both knitting and crochet. And to celebrate the re-launch, we've given Suede its own book (with a cameo from another returning favorite, Berroco Plush®).
The first pattern in Booklet #383 Berroco Suede 2017 is Bitterroot, an oversized shawl knit from end-to-end. Elongated stitches are crossed to form the open columns between the garter stitch fabric. Extra-long fringe is attached in finishing.
Musselshell shows off the subtle tonal shades of Suede. This swingy cropped cardigan is knit in pieces and seamed. A simple reverse stockinette stitch border is added to the front edge.
Inspired by leather ponchos, the Pend Oreille poncho is knit in the round from the top down. A textured stitch pattern works down the front and back of the poncho; openings for the arms are worked into the front so you can grab your cowboy hat on the way out the door.
While Suede is a great yarn for a wide variety of projects, it is especially great for bags! The Marias bag builds off a crocheted bottom before changing to knitted ribbing. A contrasting color of Suede is used to make the herringbone stitch strap and braided ties for the drawstring closure.
Ponderosa is the other bag in booklet #383 Berroco Suede 2017. An updated take on our popular Knitting Tote pattern, this new version features a stay-open clasp worked into the hem, making this bag a great option for carrying knitting projects.
Finally, the Gardiner vest is our version of a shearling vest, made for any climate. The body is worked in one piece, then Berroco Plush is joined to the edge to form the faux-shearling collar.
We've got even more great patterns for Berroco Suede on our website, including some fan favorites from the past!
Hauser is another take on a stylish bag—we told you Berroco Suede is great for bags! This tote bag is worked in two shades of Suede with easy crochet stitches, so anyone can make it. Leather handles are affixed in finishing to add a contemporary touch.
Whether you're a long-time fan of Suede or just learning about this great yarn, there's something for everyone—what are you most looking forward to making?
Happy knitting,
