We love making projects for babies—and we'll have brand new patterns for wee ones soon—but toddlers and bigger kids deserve hand-made, too!
Because of their smaller size, baby and child projects are great to work on in the summer. They're travel-friendly, as they can compactly fit into bags, and they're not going to be overly warm in your lap while you're working on them. We've got quite a few adorable patterns for bigger kids in our pattern store, but here's a selection of great patterns in machine-washable yarns that you can quickly make.
Parsley (top left) is knit with Berroco Remix®, and features a simple textured stitch pattern at the yoke and a kangaroo pocket. The sweet little Paz dress (top right) is also knit with Berroco Remix. Montauk (bottom left) was originally knit in Berroco Weekend DK, but could also be knit with Berroco Modern Cotton™ DK. And Jonquil (bottom right) makes excellent use of Berroco Modern Cotton in an adorable cabled cardigan.
While DK and worsted weight yarns make for very fast kids projects, don't forget lighter yarns such as Berroco Nebula™! This week's free pattern, Jesse, uses just a few cakes of machine-washable Berroco Nebula to create a simple drop-shoulder sweater knitting pattern for kids. The body is knit in pieces and seamed to maximize the color shifts in this 100% superwash merino yarn.
