Happy New Year!
Welcome to 2020! There's no telling what this year will hold for any of us, but hopefully it's full of great things—including leveling up your knitting and crochet skills!
First, we can't forget the basics, including how to wind yarn. And while many of you likely know, maybe you have friends who are just getting into knitting! One of our most popular videos demonstrates two ways to wind yarn from twisted hanks (such as Berroco Ultra Alpaca or Berroco Vintage) or folded hanks (such as Berroco Macro). Bonus tip: for slippery yarns, such as Berroco Mykonos (and a new yarn you'll meet soon!) are best wound by hand, as they'll slide right off a ball winder.
We've also seen tassels showing up a lot on patterns lately—they're a lovely addition to shawls and scarves and hats, too! We've got a video to help you master tassel making for any project.
Want to practice your tassel making? We've got some patterns with tassels, including the Lambe bag and the Tanager cap!
We're also seeing that crochet is gaining in popularity, and that makes us so excited! The Berroco Design team loves to crochet when we take little breaks from knitting—we're still playing with yarn and still making beautiful projects but we get to think about construction in a different way. If you're looking to tackle crochet in the new year, we've got a great collection of videos in our Video Library to help you get started—including the video below on single crochet.
If you're goal for the new year is to practice your colorwork, this week's free pattern is a great practice project! Alluvial pairs Berroco Vintage® and Berroco Millefiori® in a simple colorwork cowl that blends the colors in a dotted stitch pattern.
What skills are you hoping to master this year?

Happy knitting,
