Berroco and Barbara Delinsky. . .

Barbara DelinskyBerroco is proud to announce an exciting collaboration with best selling author Barbara Delinsky. In Ms. Delinsky's newest novel, Family Tree, the themes of knitting, a multigenerational love of yarn and the joys of a local yarn shop are all woven together Booklet #263within the main plot. A special treat for us, Berroco is even mentioned in the book. Barbara chose Berroco to design a companion knitting collection to complement her new novel. The resulting Family Tree Knitting Collection Booklet #263 contains four patterns that are inspired by characters in her novel. Designed for the modern knitter with the concept of heirloom in mind...

Family Tree Knitting Collection, Booklet #263
Elizabeth ShawlDana BagLizie LayetteSaundra Throw

Elizabeth Shawl in Ultra®Alpaca is a modern version of a Faroese shawl that the protagonist's mother might have made. Our shawl is shown tied behind the back as a modern wrap with a face framing lace edging. It would be equally entrancing draped over one's shoulders or tied around the waist as an over skirt.

Dana Felted Bag makes a great knitting or diaper bag. Knit in Ultra® Alpaca, six generous pockets surround the main compartment. The color pattern is very easy and would be a good choice for a first foray into fair isle knitting.

Lizzie Layette is a baby bunting, hat and mittens. Our color choice is a bit bolder than traditional baby hues, reflecting Barbara's own love of color. It's very easy and butter soft in Pure®Merino.

Saundra Baby Afghan/Throw in Pure Merino, made up of hexagons, looks intricate but is deceptively simple. Worked on straight needles, each hexagon is knit onto the one before it so there is no finishing. You can look at this one for hours and keep seeing it in new ways, like with a beautiful patchwork quilt.

Family Tree
Family TreeIn Family Tree*, a baby with African-American traits is born to a prominent New England family that traces its ancestors back to the Mayflower. At what should have been their happiest time, the new parents are beseiged with theories about the baby's roots and are torn apart by frustration and mistrust. Dana, the baby's mother, is determined to discover the truth. And so begins a poignant journey back through her past and her husband's heritage, unearthing secrets rooted in prejudice and fear. Family Tree is an unforgettable novel that asks penetrating questions about race, family, and the choices people make in times of crisis - choices that have profound consequences that can last for generations. Published by Doubleday, Family Tree is available at Yarn Shops and bookstores everywhere.

Ms. Delinsky herself has a true love of knitting. Here she writes about the designing of The Family Tree Knitting collection in collaboration with us:

"Working with Berroco in conceptualizing and designing the Family Tree patterns has been extraordinary. I love the yarns these patterns will call for, love the colors and the designs. I love knowing that this pattern book will live on just as long as my book. My dream is to make every one of the Family Tree items myself."
