At last! I feel like I’ve been waiting for eons to share Booklet #297 Sock Star with all of you. If you’re a regular KnitBits reader, you might remember that last year we ran a design contest featuring our sock yarns. Knitters from across the country mailed us their submissions in Berroco Sox™, Berroco Sox™ Metallic, Berroco Comfort® Sock and Berroco Ultra® Alpaca Fine. For weeks, opening the mail was an exciting thrill, a veritable runway of sock yarn inspired fashion. It was fantastic to see that many of the contributors didn’t feel confined to knitting socks—we received all manner of garments, accessories and whimsical items we never would have dreamed up. After selecting our favorites, we turned the voting over to you (take a look at all the finalists here, but please note, voting has ended). The winning designs were photographed and published in Booklet #297 Sock Star, and we think it’s a truly special collection. From the stunning two-color Meeting St. Mittens featured on the cover to the versatile Stimson Ave Stole that can be worn as a wrap or scarf, these garments helped us to see our sock yarns with fresh eyes. Perhaps the biggest surprise was just how many winners were knit in Ultra Alpaca Fine. It seems like there is nothing this luxurious but afforable yarn can do—knit at a fine gauge, the Weymouth St. Tunic is fitted and flattering, but the yarn looks amazing crocheted in the charming Olney St. Scarf.
Happy knitting,
